Kevin Clare, Enjoys a good bottle of wine

Since 2009, Kevin has been involved in teaching English in a range of different settings, teaching adults, teenagers and notably young learners in Australia, Daqing, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. He has worked in language centres as a Director of Studies and in various roles in international schools. At English for Asia, Kevin directs courses and conducts online training for teachers in Hong Kong and around the world.

Ross Thorburn, Runs the TEFL Training Institute Podcast

Ross started his teaching journey in 2006, teaching students of all ages in central China. Ross is passionate about using technology to improve education. He’s run online training programs for teachers in over fifty countries and used AI to evaluate the teaching quality of over 10,000 teachers. In 2020, Ross published his first book, Inside Online Language Teaching. Ross’s more recent book, Unlocking Success on the Duolingo English Test, covers strategies for success in the world’s first fully online AI powered high stakes language assessment.

Jennie Fung, Enjoys yoga and learning languages

Jennie is a dedicated and highly experienced CertTESOL trainer with over a decade of expertise in English language teaching and teacher development. She has worked in a wide array of educational settings, including primary and secondary international schools, special needs education, and adult learning environments. This diverse background allows Jennie to bring invaluable practical knowledge and a nuanced understanding of the unique needs of both learners and educators.

Clare Voke, Enjoys learning Mandarin

Clare began began her teaching career in 2008 and has experience in various roles in the U.K, mainland China and Hong Kong. She lived and worked in the South of China as a Regional Trainer for Education First and is particularly interested in Chinese learners of English. Clare has written online teaching courses and content, as well as presenting at conferences all over Asia.

Laura Wilkes, Enjoys podcasting

Laura has worked in a range of TESOL settings for over eight years, from teaching students of all ages in China and training teachers in Russia, to developing and facilitating online courses for TESOL staff across the world. Having graduated with a distinction for her PGCE in Learning Technologies, she continues to research ways in which teaching and training can be enhanced through technology.

Sean Martin, An ancestor of his signed the Death Warrant of Charles I

For over a decade, Sean has worked in a variety of TESOL settings in Hong Kong and Europe. He has taught professional adults of various nationalities to develop their English in a variety of commercial sectors and academic settings. Sean has worked with the university of Sunderland on their English for Academic Purposes programme. He has academic interests in sociolinguistics and it's applications in and out of the classroom.

David Weller, Writes the Barefoot TEFL Teacher newsletter

Dave began teaching in 2003 in Xi'an, China. He's since been manager, regional manager, teacher trainer and examiner for many language education institutions. He's also currently an examiner and moderator for Trinity College London, for their Diploma in TESOL and Certificate in TESOL qualifications. Dave has published four books on language education, including most recently 'ChatGPT for Language Teachers'. He regularly writes and trains about AI in language education.

Karin Xie, Personable and always curious

Karin began her TESOL career teaching English to young learners in Mainland China, before moving on to teach a wider range of ages and levels. Her roles have included senior teacher and in-house teacher trainer. Karin regularly presents at teacher conferences and has conducted research projects on teacher questioning in classrooms, learner autonomy, and how English environments impact learning.

Alex Rubenstein

Alex has over a decade of experience working in the EFL industry in Mainland China. She has held a variety of positions in teaching and education management, including at Education First where she oversaw the teaching department across six adult training schools in Guangzhou. During this time, she was involved in several national projects related to teacher development and performance management.

Dr Ezekiel Chattell

Dr Chattell lived in China for over 10 years. His research focused on experimental teacher training programmes related to encouraging creativity. His projects have included collaboration with the Centre for Teacher Education Research at Beijing Normal University. He has been a member of the Comparative Education Society of Hong Kong and served as Head of Academic Training and Support for Drama and the Performing Arts for China at Trinity College London.

Lora Guo

Lora is an experienced course developer and teacher trainer. Starting as a teacher at English First, she found her interest in various areas in TESOL. In addition to teaching, she is involved in the development of curriculum and learning tools, such as learning apps and assessment systems. She has also provided educational product training and teacher training for new and experienced ESL teachers.

Amanda Hearn

Amanda started teaching EFL in Perth, Australia in 1987. She taught English and the Cambridge Certificates at all levels, and became a CELTA trainer in 2007. She feels very privileged to have travelled and built lasting relationships with people from many parts of the world, having taught at Milner College, worked in Mahidol University in Bangkok, and been a CELTA trainer in Australia, Vietnam, India, and several cities in the USA. Now, she is delighted to be part of EfA’s Trinity Cert TESOL team, working remotely from Australia.

Eve Conway, Speaks fluent Spanish

Eve has worked in Spain, Vietnam and Mexico as both a teacher and TYLEC trainer as well as having worked on shorter projects in the UK, Italy, Azerbaijan and Peru. She worked for over six years for the British Council, where she discovered a love for working with children, particularly Early Years learners. Eve is a keen conference speaker and occasional writer for ELT magazines and publications.

Matthew Gordon

Matthew has worked as a teacher of General and Academic English, academic manager and teacher trainer in China for over 12 years. His areas of interest include learning transfer in EAP and reflective practice in teacher training and he has published on both of these topics.

Allan Crocker, Loves cooking Chinese food

Allan started his ELT career in 2012 and has worked in the U.K, Germany, Austria, Mainland China and Hong Kong in a diverse range of management, consultant, training, and teaching positions, including as a Course Director for EfA. Allan's professional interests include andragogy, teacher identity, and using music in the classroom.

Maria Björning-Gyde, Dedicated to animal welfare

Maria is an examiner, moderator and marker on all Trinity TESOL panels, including the DipTESOL, CertTESOL, TYLEC, CertPT and CertOT. She has more than 25 years’ experience in New Zealand, Mainland China, Hong Kong and Indonesia. Maria also dedicates her time to education and projects related to animal welfare issues and behavioural change for a One Health approach in Bali.

Sharon Maloney

Sharon has over 16 years’ experience teaching learners of all ages and levels, from very young learners to teens and adults, covering business, exams and ESP, including phonics, pronunciation, HKDSE and IELTS. In Hong Kong she has taught with ESF, British Council and as a kindergarten NET.  Sharon previously  taught at language schools in the UK.

Bryan worked as a teacher trainer and part time course director for the Trinity CertTESOL at English for Asia.  With over 10 years teaching experience, he has a special interest in phonetics and phonology.
